IN SYNC

Unisono-Studie für zwei Ensembles oder 28, 56 oder 112 Instrumente

The unison study IN SYNC is written for two ensembles and is based on the relationship between musical and visual actions. In the first part of the piece the movements of the musicians are completely synchronized: While the strings are moving the bow to the left and right side (up bows and down bows), the percussionists play instruments on the left and right side in sync, also the trombone moving the slide forwards and backwards, the bassoon players are stepping from the left to the right or the trumpet players are muting their instruments with moving their hands forwards and backwards. The consequence is a visual unison, but the resulting sound is different.

In this way the piece explores different ways of musical or visual unisons according to the motto “same same but different”.
